Leadership Training Camp

Day 1

Leadership training camp at Shri Gagangiri Mahraj Ashram, Manori. The camp was arranged by the N.S.S unit of  Thakur College of Science and Commerce. The reporting time was 9.30am and we reached at the campsite at around 9.00am. Participants from over 51 colleges all over western suburban district started arriving one after the other.

    The registration started once enough students reached the campsite. By the time students were registering, the other students were served breakfast with hot tea and poha. Once the registration was done, we all were divided into 5 groups by Mr. Chandraban. Later at 11-30pm we were given instruction and rules of the camp by Mr. Chandraban. At 1.00pm we all had lunch and before lunch, we offered prayers to God.

    At 4.00pm the inauguration of the LTC was done by Mrs. Patil and Mr. Sushil Shinde, the N.S.S District Coordinator. Following this was a session on the History, Philosophy, Aims and Objectives of N.S.S which was conducted by Mr. Sushil Shinde. At 5.00pm we had tea break.

    At 5.30pm Mr.Mithun and Miss. Snehal from the NGO named ‘Akshara ‘conducted a session on ‘safety measures in public place’. We learned how to fight bravely against any kind of violence by motivational videos shown to us.

     After the session Sushil sir took us all to a temple which was on the top of the mountain. It was a peaceful, spiritual and divine place. We had a small prayer for our safe stay at the camp for rest of the days. Then we returned back to the campsite and sang some bhajans.

    Around 9.00pm dinner was served to us. After dinner, we had a recall session where the entire day’s activities were discussed. The positive and negative events of the day were also discussed and everyone participated in the session equally. Late at 11.00pm the lights were turned off.

Day 2

    There was a wake up whistle at 5.30am which signed us to freshen up and get ready for the morning exercise to be taken by Mr. Jitendra Singh. There was another whistle at 6.15am, which signaled us to assemble in our own particular group. At 7.15, after our exercise we sang our daily morning prayers. And later, at 8.00am, we had our breakfast.

     At 10.00am Sushil sir conducted a session on ‘The Administrative Structure of N.S.S’. In this session, we got to know how the N.S.S unit in a college should be formed and maintained. We also got to know the minimum requirements the volunteers should complete according to rules and regulations of Mumbai University.

    At 2.00pm, lunch was served to us. After which Sushil sir continued with further session. At 4.00pm, we had tea break.

    Later, 4.30 onwards, Mr. Sunil Kadam conducted a session on ‘How to make Street play’. The session was quite entertaining as we danced, made plays on the instant topic given to us. At 7.00pm, we sang our prayers and after spending some quality time, we had our dinner at 9.00pm. 

     As per the schedule, we had our recall session for the day. And at 11.00pm the lights were turned off.

Day 3

    On the 3rd day, as the previous day, was a wake up whistle at 5.30am which signaled us to freshen up and get ready for our morning exercise to be taken by Mr. Jitendra Singh. There was another whistle at 6.15am which signaled us to assemble in our own particular groups. At 7.30am, after our exercise, we sang our daily morning prayers. And later at 8.00am, we had our breakfast.

    Later at 9.00am we had our bath and got ready to work in group on the work assigned to us to prepare street play and charts.

    At 10.30am Mr. Davkar and IAS officer Mr. Satish Tripathi took session on ‘Importance of Girl Child’. Later at 12.00noon Mr. Kiran conducted an interactive session in which he interacted with us on the reason we joined N.S.S.

   At 1.30pm, lunch was served to us. After which at 2.30pm, Mr. Akshat Singhal personality from ‘The Blue Ribbon’ conducted a session on ‘The qualities of Leadership’. He showed a beautiful ppt presentation which will be very helpful in our career ahead.

   At 4.30pm, we had tea break after which Mr. Singhal continued with the remaining session. Later at 6.00pm Mr. Sunil, a reporter from Times conducted a session on ‘Importance of Sports’. We played ‘Pickel ball’ invented by Mr. Sunil. It was all in all fun session

     At 7.30pm, Mr. Santosh Pathare, a Chemistry Professor and a writer conducted a session on ‘Communication Skills’. He started with a song and his experiences which then continued in an interesting session.

    At 9.30pm, we had our dinner which followed with a recall session. And at around 11.00pm lights were turned off.

Day 4

    On the 4th day, again as the previous day, there was a wake up whistle at 5.30am, which signaled us to freshen up and get ready for the morning exercise to be taken up by Mr. Jitendra Singh. There was another whistle at 6.15am which signaled us to assemble in our own particular groups. At 7.30am after our exercise, we sang our daily morning prayers. And later at 8.30am, we had our breakfast.

    At 10.00am, Mr. Deepak, a BMM professor from Thakur College, conducted a session on ‘Report writing’ and ‘News making’. He also taught us ‘How a leader should work in team’.

    At 1.00pm, Mr. Kiran took a small interactive session on ‘What we learned during the last 3 days in the camp. Later, at 2.00pm lunch was served which followed with a session on ‘Knowledge of History’ conducted by Mr. Prashant. He is a profound writer who wrote about leaders like Gandhiji, Nehruji etc. We learned on ‘How we should work with Non-violence and Mental strength.

     Later at 5.30, we had a group activity in which Sushil sir distributed copies of 5 different stories. Each story had a beautiful meaning behind it. In this activity 2 to 4 members of each group had to come forward and narrate the story to everyone and explain the moral of the story too. This activity was accompanied with tea break.

    At 6.00pm, Mr. Kiran took a session on ‘Observation Skills’. We learned very nicely as the session was practical and much theoretical.

    After which at 7.30pm, it was the time to narrate the stories given to us. Every group narrated the story one after the other.

    At 9.00pm, we had our dinner. After which it was time for little fun. Kiran sir and Sushil sir acted a play which taught us ‘How to innovatively organize a street play’.

    At around 10.30 as usual we had our recall session. After which Sushil sir showed a video clip of a handicapped person who lived his life normally and with goals. We learned that nothing is impossible in life and always aim high.

    After which Sushil sir gave us a surprise by organizing a camp fire where students played antakshari and danced. As this was our last night at the camp the lights turned off at 2.00am.

Day 5

As everyone slept late the previous night, everyone had a tough time waking up early in the morning. But as every other day, on the 5th day, there was a wake up whistle at 5.30am. There was another whistle at 6.15am which signaled us to assemble in our own groups. Today the session was small, instead we went to another temple where all the groups meditated for a long time. The place was really calm and peaceful. Everyone felt really fresh after meditating there. Later, we went near a beach through the forest. We had a good time there.

      After coming back to campsite we had our breakfast. As everyone finished their bath, all packed their bags as it was the last day at the camp. After everyone got ready, at 10.00am, Mr. Sushil Shinde conducted a session on ‘How to maintain the records of the N.S.S unit in our College, how to conduct various activities in our college such as Malaria awareness project, Blood Donation drives etc.

   After the session, we had lunch at 2.00pm. The camp concluded by some students and sir giving the vote of thanks. And at around 4.30pm all of us left the campsite and began with our journey to home.

    The camp was a great experience and it taught us a lot of things. We ourselves noticed a change in our behavior and attitude towards life. We are definitely motivated to do something good for ourselves and for our nation.
