22nd October, 2011

The NSS unit from Usha Pravin Gandhi College of Management organized a visit to the Vimla Dermatological Centre. Unlike, what the name suggests, this place is also home to underprivileged children. A diwali celebration was organized for these kids on 22nd October.

The function started around 2 pm. The hall was decorated by the volunteers for the function. At first, a magical show was arranged for these children whom they enjoyed a lot. Also cakes were arranged by the volunteers to celebrate the festival of diwali.

After sometime, the kids were taken to another room where they were given diyas to paint. They were all distributed in different groups and were provided with colours to paint. They all enthusiastically got to the task at hand, and painted the diyas artistically. The volunteers also helped them in painting the diyas. It was great fun.

After the diyas were painted, children were taken back to the hall wherein diyas were lit by them and motivational speeches were given. After that, a variety of songs were played, and the kids and the volunteers and everyone else present in that room, danced without any inhibitions. After all the dancing and singing, all the kids were then assembled into a different room. Here we celebrated the birthday of two girls, by cutting a big Mickey-mouse cake, and singing the “happy birthday” song for them.

Then, the children were served food by the NSS volunteers. After this, the volunteers spent some more time with the kids. However, after a certain point of time, the volunteers had to leave. The volunteers were more than happy for whatever they were able to do for these children.
